Submarine Cable Map

We all use the internet but we usually don't think about the engineering and infrastructure behind it. How exactly does that cute kitten photo get from Moldovia to your iPad in Carrickmacross? A lot of internet traffic is carried over the telecommunications infrastructure and we usually think about telephone wires and satellites for this.

However, there's a vast network of cables running around the globe underwater. Here's a cool map we found showing exactly where these cables are and who they connect. So the next time you're watching that Justin Bieber video online, consider how he travels across the internet, probably underwater.

we're all VOLUNTEERS

Mentors give their time freely to help build coding skills in the community.

If you'd like to help out, regardless of your skill set, send us your details.
